WA - Governor Signs Problem Gambling Funding Bill

You may recall a couple of weeks ago I mentioned legislation to increase the amount of funding allocated for problem gambling treatment, prevention, and education pending in Washington state. (See WA Funding Awaits Signature - 5/1/05) . At that time all that was required was the governor's signature.

I am pleased to say that the bill has now been signed according to this article in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. The bill will provide 1.5 million dollars over a two year period. This money will be added to nearly $450,000.00 provided by gaming Indian tribes in the state between now and 2006.

I am glad to see that WA state has done the right thing here. I will continue to monitor how this important money is spent in the future.

John
