North Carolina Moves Closer To Lottery

It appears that all that is left to decide in North Carolina before the State Lottery is approved are the details of what, if any, programs will be included in the final draft of the bill to adress problem gamblers. This according to the WRAL-TV website today.

"I think the question of increased criminal activity, the question of whether or not you create compulsive gamblers really is something that we need to think about in terms of putting a lottery in place in North Carolina and what can you do about those sort of things, or are those things just by-products that you just accept," said Senate Majority Leader Phil Berger.

Although I do not think that most people that play the lottery are compulsive gamblers, especially for those that this is their only gambling. BUT, I have met many problem gamblers who play the lottery to excess along with their other games. I met one person who had over 2 inches of that little gray junk from the scratch tickets on the floorboard of her car before she stopped. Lotteries are gambling just like any other form of gambling to a certain percentage of people.
